Faith Communities Engage the HIV/AIDS Crisis

This lunch seminar will include a presentation and discussion of the Berkley Center's report, “Faith Communities Engage the HIV/AIDS Crisis: Lessons Learned and Paths Forward.” The report, based on work supported by a grant from the Henry R. Luce Foundation, maps the involvement of religious organizations and religious-secular cooperation around the global health crisis. The meeting will feature a presentation by Dr. Inon Schenker, Israel's leading professional in HIV/AIDS prevention, and a discussion of Georgetown University's HIV/AIDS Initiative.
Featured Speakers:
Dr. Inon Schenker is a well known researcher, senior consultant to government ministries, the IDF, UN and other international agencies and was the Founding Chair of The Jerusalem AIDS Project.
Katherine Marshall and Lucy Keough, lead authors on the report. Katherine Marshall is a Senior Fellow at the Berkley Center and Visiting Professor at Government at Georgetown; she worked for over three decades in the World Bank, including extensive involvement on HIV/AIDS issues and on the bridges between faith and development. Lucy Keough is a retired senior operational officer at the World Bank, also with long-time engagement on the HIV/AIDS issues, especially in Africa but also in East Asia.
Jessica Raper, Special Assistant for Policy Planning to the President of Georgetown University, is spear-heading the efforts of Georgetown faculty, students, and other partners working together in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
