Abdesalam Maghroaoui, Duke University, will speak about terrorism in North Africa and the
most recent Moroccan Parliamentary elections held in September 2007.
Abdesalam Maghraoui is Visiting Associate Professor ofPolitical Science
and Research Scholar at the Duke Islamic Studies Center. He focuses on
the challenge of building modern, democratic governance in contemporary
Muslim societies. As director of the Muslim World Initiative at the US
Institute of Peace, he developed the concept of “Islamic Renewal” that
links the prospects of modern political change in Muslim societies to
religious reforms. Maghraoui teaches courses on Middle East Politics
and the Arab-Israel Conflict as well as courses on Islam and politics,
religion, politics and violence, and political culture.
