Millennial Values Campus Events

After attending the Millennial Values Symposium, the Millennial Values Fellows were asked to continue the conversation on their own campuses. This page features the events they hosted and the content of those conversations.
Boston University: Interfaith Election Night
Organizer: Abigail Clauhs

On the night of the election, I gathered students from around my campus and from multiple religious traditions to discuss the role that religion plays in politics for the Millennial Generation. I handed out sheets with selected results from the latest Millennial Values Survey in order to guide discussion. The discussion has special significance because we were on the verge of finding out the results of an election where the themes of the Religious Right, as well as religious diversity, had played an important role.

One of the most interesting questions of the night arose when we were looking at the statistics of how comfortable Millennials would be with a Mormon, atheist, or Muslim president (the answer is, not very). We wondered if people would be more or less comfortable with a Mormon, atheist, or Muslim Supreme Court Justice. We also discussed the possibility of having a Jewish president, and how far in the future it would take to get there. It was an in-depth discussion that brought up many questions of what the political (and religious) landscape will look like.
