A Mind of Peace: The Evolution of Jordan's Perception of a Political Settlement with Israel 1967-1988

October 16, 2006

In this event, visiting scholar Joseph Nevo spoke on the process and ultimately successful conclusion of negotiations between King Hussein of Jordan and the state of Israel. Nevo discussed the historical conditions and specific leadership that made it possible for one of the leaders of the Arab world to negotiate with Israel in a way that implied both gains and concessions, ultimately leading to a successfully held peace treaty, despite the fact that most of Jordan's preconditions were not met.

This event was cosponsored by the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and the Program for Jewish Civilization.
