February 5, 2009

Location: Healy Hall Riggs Library Map

In this discussion, writer Paul Elie and scholar Ron Hansen reflected on the work of Gerard Manley Hopkins, a Jesuit priest and poet. They particularly focused on Hopkins' “Wreck of the Deutschland,” a compelling account of the sinking of a German steamer that occupies a prominent place in Exiles (2008), Hansen's novel featuring the life and work of Gerard Manley Hopkins.

The event was held as part of Georgetown's annual Jesuit Heritage Week and sponsored by the Georgetown University Office of the President.
