At this event, James O'Donnell, provost at Georgetown University, and Jacques Berlinerblau, associate professor of Jewish civilization at Georgetown University, discussed the origins of the Hebrew and Christian Bible. O'Donnell and Berlinerblau have co-taught a semester-long course at Georgetown on the same topic in which they explore issues like translation, canonical selection, exegesis, and interpretation within Judaism and Christianity.

About Jacques Berlinerblau

Jacques Berlinerblau is the Rabbi Harold White Chair in Jewish Civilization in Georgetown's Walsh School of Foreign Service and senior advisor to the Center for Jewish Civilization, where he was director from 2006 to June 2020. Berlinerblau has published on a wide variety of issues ranging from the sociology of heresy and modern Jewish intellectuals to African-American and Jewish-American relations.

About James O'Donnell

James O'Donnell is a professor and university librarian at Arizona State University. He was provost at Georgetown University from 2002 to 2012 and a professor there until 2015. In addition to innovating in the use of networked information technology in higher education, he has published widely on the Mediterranean world in late antiquity.
