Israel and US Foreign Policy

In this event cosponsored with the Program for Jewish Civilization, Georgetown professor Robert J. Lieber spoke on the drivers of American Middle East policy, citing both the historical American sympathy for and identity with the state of Israel and the fear of radical Islam. In terms of the Arab-Israeli conflict, he discussed the intense desire for a resolution and the roadblocks that lay in the path toward reconciliation, notably the absence of an authoritative Palestinian partner that is both able and willing to negotiate a durable peace.
