Politics in Post-Independence India

March 28, 2006

At this event, Father Vincent Sekhar, S.J. explored the attitudes of various Indian religions toward democracy and secularism. Sekhar described India as a "multi-mindset nation founded on the two pillars, democracy and secularism." He also questioned whether there are ways in which new approaches by religious leaders could help to promote not only tolerance and understanding between the various religions, but a more peaceful and tolerant society as outlined in the Indian constitution.
