Douglas Johnston and Azhar Hussain spoke about their experiences traveling to Pakistan in an attempt to engage madrasa students and to institute changes within Pakistani school systems. Johnston and Hussain discussed the program's goals, including the expansion of madrasa curricula to include the scientific and social disciplines, with a special emphasis on religious tolerance and human rights (especially women's rights), and the transformation of the pedagogy to promote critical thinking skills among the students. The program also focused on teaching students dialogue facilitation and conflict resolution skills and equipping newly-trained teachers with the skills necessary to train other madrasa leaders in their areas.
