The Future of Christian-Muslim Relations: Where Do We Go From Here?
The March 2008 conference on "The Future of Christian-Muslim Relations: Where do we go from here?" brought together Christian-Muslim and interreligious dialogue experts for discussion as part of the ongoing conversation sparked by A Common Word Between Us and You, in which Muslim leaders sought to begin dialogue with Christians based on a common love of God and one's neighbor. In the keynote address, Peter C. Phan addressed the challenge of reading religious texts interreligiously, followed by five panel discussions over two days. Panelists discussed the character and text of A Common Word, contemplated how diverse Christian communities might respond to the document, and its influence on education practices. They also highlighted how future dialogue initiatives could learn from past efforts. The event was hosted by the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding and the Office of the President of Georgetown University.
