United Nations Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and Its Impact on Development
The "United Nations Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and Its Impact on Development" brought together world leaders to facilitate dialogue on reforming the international financial system and developing coordinated responses to the short- and long-term consequences of the global economic crisis. The conference was sponsored by and open to the members of the United Nations General Assembly. After an initial general debate on the crisis and its impact on development, four roundtables guided discussion from an analysis of the crisis's global fallout to the response of the United Nations system. The conference's outcome document notes the impact, causes, and responses to the crisis before outlining in greater detail areas for action, including the debt burden of developing nations, avoiding protectionism, improved regulation, and financial system reform.
