Abdul Mukti
Abdul Mukti is a senior lecturer at the State Institute for Islamic Studies Walisongo Semarang and an expert on education and religious pluralism. Mukti also serves as executive director of the Centre for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilisations. Since 2005 he has been the secretary of the Council of Primary and Secondary Education for Muhammadiyah; from 2002-2006 Mukti served as chairman of the National Board of Muhammadiyah Youth. He is also actively involved in the Indonesian Muslim Intellectual Association, Religious Counter Terrorism group in the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Indonesia-United Kingdom Islamic Advisory Group. Mukti's has authored Deformalisasi Islam (2004), Kristen Muhammadiyah: Konvergensi Muslim dan Kristen Dalam Pendidikan (2009), and Inkulturasi Islam (2009), as well as several chapters in edited books. At the Berkley Center’s December 2009 Cambodia meeting on faith-based organizations in Southeast Asia Mukti presented his paper on Islam, education, terrorism, and other themes related to religious pluralism. Mukti earned an MA from Flinders University of South Australia and PhD from the State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah.
