John Lewis

John Lewis is an equity partner and Managing Director of the Terra Global Capital LLC Landscape Carbon Fund, and adjunct professor at the Energy Resource and Environment Program of the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies JHU/SAIS/ERE). He worked extensively in West Africa and in Haiti, and on the Near East, for the Foreign Service and USAID. From 1994 through 2000, he was Director of USAID’s central (Global Bureau) Office of Agriculture and Food Security. As USAID’s senior agriculturalist during that period, he represented the Agency to: The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the U.S. delegation to UNFAO’s 1995 World Food Summit; the Agribusiness Committee of the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission; the “carbon sinks” working group of the U.S. delegation to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) and its Kyoto Protocol; and co-chaired the US/EU donor Working Group on Food Aid and Food Security. After retirement, he served as Executive Director of the Near East Foundation (2000-2001) and Pro-Natura USA (2004-2006), and worked as a consultant in West Africa for ARD, Inc. and Cantera Partners. He has been with Terra Global Capital since that time.
