Fr. Francisco Ivern Simó, S.J., is a Spanish Jesuit who serves as Vice Rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. He joined the Society of Jesus at age 16 and has served in many different countries around the world. After studying and working in India, Belgium, Canada, and Italy, he came to Brazil, where he initially worked as director of the Brazilian Institute of Development and then as provincial superior of the Jesuits of the Central Eastern Brazilian Province. He initiated the formation of the Conference of Jesuit Provincials of Latin America and served as the group's first president; he also helped to establish the Jesuit Secretariat for Socio-Economic Development.
