Huang Ping was a postdoctoral fellow at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs for the 2012-2013 academic year. She is also an assistant professor in the School of International and Public Affairs at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Huang's research and publications mainly focus on transnational religious NGOs, religion, and diplomacy, as well as issues of religion, media, and globalization. An extract of her doctoral dissertation, "Reformulating Buddhism and Making a Global Social Movement: A Sociological Study of the Tzu Chi Foundation in Taiwan and Hong Kong," won the Twelfth National Challenge Cup Contest Third Prize in 2011. Her research program concerning religion and American public diplomacy won support from the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission as a Key Innovation Program. Dr. Huang received her Ph.D. in the sociology of religion from Hong Kong Baptist University.
