Sister Lakana is director of the Mother Mazzarello House, an education center that teaches literary and sewing skills to young women from low-income areas in Cambodia who are at risk of being trafficked to Thailand. Previously a full-time sewing teacher, Sister Lakana played a major role in the founding of Mazzarello House and has helped the center expand its education program to include kindergarten through grade twelve. She is a member of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco).
