Abdallah Schleifer is professor emeritus of journalism at the American University in Cairo, where he was founding director of the Kamal Adham Center for Journalism Training and Research. Schleifer is a senior fellow at the Royal Aal al Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought and Foreign Policy Research Institute in Philadelphia and senior editor of the annual edition of The Muslim 500. He has served as a columnist for Al Arabiya News; NBC News bureau chief in Cairo; Al Arabiya bureau chief in Washington, D.C.; correspondent for Jeune Afrique and the New York Times; and managing editor of the Jerusalem Star/Palestine News published in then-Jordanian Jerusalem. Schleifer was an original signatory of A Common Word Between Us and You and participated in the first Common Word conferences held at Yale and at Georgetown. He did his graduate studies on Islamic political thought at the American University in Beirut.
