Catholic Relief Services Nicaragua
Catholic Relief Serves (CRS) partners with the Catholic Church and civil society organizations to improve microfinancing, civil society development, natural resource and risk management, protection of human rights, agriculture, and health. It began operating in Nicaragua in 1964 providing basic emergency supplies in response to a devastating hurricane. According to the United Nations, over 80 percent of Nicaragua's population lives on less than two US dollars per day, the highest proportion in all of Latin America and the Caribbean. CRS targets vulnerable, rural farmers by promoting sustainable development, encouraging cooperation among farmers, and improving connections to formal markets.
