Islam and World Politics

The program will:

-Explore the role of Islam and Muslim adherents in multiple forms of political activities (elections/law making/political participation/social protests).
-Focus on the continuous interaction between local/regional and international levels of the politicization of Islam.
-Compare the role of Islam in politics and society with similar roles of other religious traditions across cultures and countries.

The program will build on Islamopedia, an existing web resource, created as part of the Islam in the West program. It aims to document and analyze the nexus of Islam and governance by analyzing religious debates and rulings on social and political issues as well as the involvement of political and state actors in the religious domains. With the support of a Minerva grant, a series of in-depth country profiles have been added to the site.
