Genealogías de la secularización [Genealogies of Secularization, published in Spanish] by José Casanova looks primarily at developing and analyzing the different processes of secularization throughout the world in different eras, hoping to provide a more complex and accurate understanding of secularization than previously exists. Casanova notes the Eurocentric nature of many understandings of secularization, and also probes the different definitions of secularization, from the privatization of religion to the separation of church and state, to the decline of religious practice. Casanova also explores the incredible diversity and pluralism of religious practices, especially as religious diversity becomes more global.
