President's Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge Year-End Report

June 15, 2012

Launched in September 2011, the President's Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge is an invitation to institutions of higher education to commit to a year of interfaith and community service programming on campus. Through the Challenge, Georgetown University continues to build upon a long tradition and commitment to service and community impact, and this report highlights campus-wide efforts during the 2011-2012 academic year. With a focus on education and poverty alleviation in the greater Washington area, thousands of students participated in regular and one-time service activities during the year, and the report highlights the various tutoring programs, neighborhood clean-up effort, canned food drive, and alternative spring break trips that formed part of this effort. Georgetown reached approximately 1,000 students and 1,500 total participants (faculty, staff, community members) through our interfaith engagement initiatives, including an interfaith 9/11 prayer vigil, faith and service roundtable discussions, a blog series, and student discussion groups. The report concludes by reiterating Georgetown's commitment to participating in the second year of the President's Interfaith and Community Service Challenge.
