The Orthodox Church and Russian Politics

Author: Irina du Quenoy

April 15, 2011

The Orthodox Church and Russian Politics by Irina Papkova discusses the role that the Russian Orthodox Church has played since the fall of communism and the Soviet Union, allowing the church to once again play an active role in the country's politics. Contrary to many news reports, Papkova argues that in reality the Church's role in politics is fairly limited, especially compared to other national churches. This is primarily due to its division into fundamentalist, traditionalist, and liberal camps, thus precluding the development of a united front. The book was published by the Oxford University Press and the Woodrow Wilson Press.
