Addis Ababa Muslim Women's Council
Founded in October 1997 with the support of the Islamic Affairs Supreme Council of Addis Ababa, the Addis Ababa Muslim Women's Council (AAMWC) supports women's right to engage in social, economic, and political life as recognized by the Ethiopian constitution and the Qur'an. Awareness-raising is a key programmatic goal, and AAMWC holds frequent workshops discussing the social responsibilities of both women and men from an Islamic perspective. It also addresses reproductive health issues, including female genital mutilation, and provides academic and vocational training for orphans and vulnerable children.
