Presbyterian Church (USA)

The Presbyterian Church (USA), currently 2.3 million members strong, has emerged as the mainstream voice of Presbyterianism after its parent denominations shed their Civil War-era divisions. Like many other American churches, the PC(USA) is presently debating the role of homosexuals in ordained ministry. The denomination also supports a wide range of service ministries, including disaster relief, anti-poverty and anti-hunger programs, and peacemaking and justice advocacy. It is committed to interfaith dialogue and also promotes ecumenism through its membership in the National Council of Churches, World Council of Churches, Churches Uniting in Christ, and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches.
