United Nations Population Fund
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is a UN development agency engaged in campaigns, education, and consultation that promote women's empowerment, sexual and reproductive health, and development strategies informed by population dynamics. Since the landmark 1994 International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, UNFPA has been committed to establishing universal access to reproductive health care and primary education by 2015, as well as reducing infant and maternal mortality and slowing HIV transmission; these goals have become part of the Millennium Development Goals. Many of its programs also target young adults in an effort to promote future social and economic development. UNFPA focuses in part on preventing sexual violence following natural disasters and other emergency situations. It has worked with many faith leaders to spread reproductive health information, such as a collaboration with the African Methodist Episcopal Church's Women’s Missionary Society in support of the Campaign to End Fistula.
