World Council of Churches
Founded in 1948, the World Council of Churches (WCC) is the world's largest Christian ecumenical movement, representing over 550 million Christians from over 100 countries. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the WCC includes more than 340 Protestant and Orthodox churches and maintains strong ties with the Roman Catholic Church, which itself is not a member. While its main commitment is Christian ecumenism, defined as the union of the world's Christian churches, the WCC also engages in other forms of international cooperation, including interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and addresses questions of human rights and economic and social development. A central concern since 2001 has been Muslim-Christian dialogue.
