Aiman Mazyek

Aiman Mazyek is the Secretary-General of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany (ZMD), as well as a freelance journalist and media consultant. Born in Aachen, Mazyek is the son of Syrian and German parents. He studied Arabic in Cairo from 1992 to 1997 and earned an M.A. from Aachen in philosophy, economics, and political science. He has been a delegate to the International Islamic Conference held in Egypt several times, and he has been a member of the ZMD since 1994. In 1996-7 Mazyek helped to found www.islam.de, the widely known German portal for information about Islam on the internet. He also helped found the Green Helmets Association, which sends young people to do humanitarian work in post-conflict and disaster-stricken areas.
