Mohammad Ali Abtahi
Seyyd Mohammad Ali Abtahi, the chairman of the Institute for Interreligious Dialogue, was also formerly the Vice-President of Iran. He is an Iranian theologian and scholar and has been a vocal supporter of democracy in his country. Abtahi was a participant in the dialogue at the 2008 Madrid Alliance of Civilizations Forum. In the aftermath of the 2009 elections, he was arrested by the government of Iran for support of the opposition.
