Saif al-Islam Gaddafi
Saif Gaddafi is the second son of Libya leader Muammar Gaddafi and an influential member of his father’s regime. Before the 2011 Libyan Civil War, he was seen as potential reformer and an advocate for Libyan realignment with the West. He often served as an intermediary between his father’s regime and foreign investors and diplomats, and in 2008 he played a key role in Libyan-Italian reconciliation talks. At the outset of the Libyan Civil War, Gaddafi reaffirmed his support for his father’s regime and blamed the unrest on radical Islamists and drug addicts.
