Reaching Out? Donor Approaches to Faithbased Organizations in the Response to HIV/AIDS

March 1, 2004
The Tearfund HIV/AIDS briefing paper "Reaching Out?" introduces various donor initiatives targeted at FBOs that work on HIV/AIDS, explaining the limitations of these partnerships and barriers to increasing support. Primarily focusing on Christian FBOs, the paper analyzes responses of donors to FBOs and makes recommendations for improved collaboration. The paper argues that while the particular strengths of FBOs have been acknowledged, the amount of financial and technical support they receive is rather limited, and FBO agendas often do not correspond to those of donors. Tearfund is a Christian international aid and development agency focused on reducing poverty in the world's poorest communities.
