Securing the Peace: The Durable Settlement of Civil Wars

January 1, 2010
Securing the Peace: The Durable Settlement of Civil Wars by Monica Duffy Toft explores the multiple ways civil wars have concluded and argues that security sector reform is one of the most crucial contributors to long-term stability. The author roots her conclusions in statistical analysis of civil wars since 1940 and a series of case studies on countries such as El Salvador and Sudan. Toft researched and wrote the book while faculty director of the Luce-funded Initiative on Religion in International Affairs at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University.
