White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue: Living together as equals in dignity
May 7, 2008
The Council of Europe's "White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue: Living together as equals in dignity" contends that only through dialogue can Europe's growing diversity remain a source of strength and vitality, rather than a source of ignorance and divisiveness. The White Paper follows with a set of preconditions and policy principles that should guide and shape dialogue efforts. These include democratic governance with citizen participation, respect for the equality of individual human dignity, intercultural education, and physical spaces that intentionally encourage intercultural interaction. The White Paper closes by acknowledging that implementation of these recommendations is a process that must be continually monitored and reevaluated as all stakeholders work towards a flourishing, culturally diverse society. This publication was affiliated with the Luce Initiative for Religion and International Affairs.
