Women, War, & Peace
October 10, 2011
This PBS special series features five full episodes showcasing the contribution of women as advocates of peace around the world. It demonstrates the critical role that women have played in in conflicts to create peace as well as the need to advocate for women’s right in this context. The episodes include cases from Colombia, Afghanistan, Liberia, and Bosnia. The Liberian episode, “Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” highlights the role of religious motivations and methods of peacebuilding in women’s subversion of the power and brutality of the military dictator and warlords in Liberia. The episode on the conflict in Bosnia highlights the travesty of the mass rape which targeted Muslim women and the bravery of those women who chose to testify in international court. The episodes aired in October and November 2011 but are available online with additional featured stories.
