World Christian Database

The World Christian Database is an online resource with data on religious adherents worldwide, classified by major denominations. This information is available at various levels of geographic aggregation and can also be viewed alongside other current demographic statistics. Based at the Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, the database grew from the World Christian Encyclopedia and is updated regularly; access to the database is by paid subscription. The database is one of the few sources for cross-national, time-series religious statistics and is quoted widely in the mainstream media. One of the most valuable features is the customizable data tables, which can be exported in PDF or Excel format. Due to the project'’s historic emphasis on evangelization, the data is weighted heavily toward Christianity. It often relies on estimates self-reported by religious groups or based on affiliation with umbrella organizations.
