A Global Ethic
Fundamental principles for all people
Deriving from the final publication of the 1993 Parliament of the World’s Religions, the Global Ethic is an ideology articulated by Catholic theologian Hans Kung and agreed upon by leaders of all faiths and none. It focuses on an ethical framework of fundamental principles that are shared by all peoples and that are present in all religious and philosophical traditions. These principles include non-violence, justice, tolerance, and equality. Since its introduction, the Global Ethic has served as a basis for education and dialogue among people of various backgrounds, allowing them to reach consensus on important issues despite their differing personal beliefs.
