Latin America

In January 2009 the Berkley Center, the United Nations Population Fund, and the World Faiths Development Dialogue convened a consultation of scholars, practitioners, and religious leaders in Antigua, Guatemala to take stock of the wide range of ongoing work by Latin American organizations that are, in varying ways, inspired by religious faith, and to review major issues facing the region. A background review and pre-consultation interviews with participants facilitated more in-depth examination of best practices and collaborative strategies across a range of contemporary development challenges, informing subsequent discussion and a consultation report outlining critical actors, best practices, and ways forward. These efforts were part of the Berkley Center’s ongoing work in the global mapping of faith-inspired organizations in development work, sponsored by the Luce/SFS Program on Religion and International Affairs.
