Religion and the 2008 Election

As the nation prepares for the 2008 election, many critical domestic and foreign policy challenges intersect with religious issues—from countering religiously-motivated violence abroad to the role of religious groups in civil society in the United States.
The Berkley Center is convening a series of events to investigate these issues, featuring high-profile leaders from Congress and journalists. Topics include:
- how candidates will address the challenges facing United States foreign policy in light of the resurgence of religious fervor around the world
- how candidates navigate the political and policy worlds as a person of faith
- how election strategy is formulated in light of the religious diversity of the voting public and charged issues.
Events include:
April 9, 2008: A Conversation about Religion and Politics with Senator Sam Brownback
April 3, 2008: Souled Out? Faith and Politics After the Religious Right: A Conversation with EJ Dionne
