Junior Year Abroad Network Spring 2020 Application
November 13, 2019
The Berkley Center's Junior Year Abroad Network (JYAN) provides an opportunity for students to reflect on their experiences and observations about religion, culture, politics, and society in their host countries through guided engagement and social media storytelling. JYAN is now in its thirteenth year. Over 620 students have participated in the program, sharing reflections from more than 55 countries on six continents.
Participating students discuss their observations over the course of the semester in smaller peer cohorts with guided reflection questions on their interreligious and intercultural experiences abroad, create social media posts around the role of religion in culture, politics, and society, and produce a final reflection piece for website publication (750 to 1,000 words; four to seven photos or video clips). JYAN students enjoy a pre-departure lunch and post-return dinner, designed to equip students with reflection resources.
In return, students receive a $250 stipend and have their writing published on the Berkley Center website and social media content posted to the Berkley Center’s Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts.
