Death, Resurrection, and Human Destiny

April 23-25, 2012

The theme of the eleventh Building Bridges Seminar, held April 23-25, 2012, was "Death, Resurrection and Human Destiny in Christian and Muslim Perspective." On the first day, hosted at King’s College, London, public lectures (by Tom Wright, Mona Siddiqui, Geoffrey Rowell, Asma Afsaruddin, Harriet Harris, and Sajjad Rizvi) considered the seminar’s theme in relation to the Bible, the Qur’an, the Christian and Islamic traditions, and contemporary practice. On the second and third days of the seminar, held in Canterbury, participants engaged in detailed discussion in private sessions, focusing on relevant Christian and Islamic texts. The proceedings of this seminar are available in PDF form, provided by Georgetown University Press.

Death, Resurrection, and Human Destiny: Christian and Muslim Perspectives

A record of the 2012 Building Bridges Seminar, the essays in this volume explore what the Bible and Qur'an—and the Christian and Islamic theological traditions—have to say about death, resurrection, and human destiny. Other essays explore the notion of the good death, as well as explain the funeral practices of each tradition.
