Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf: Lose your ego, find your compassion
October 1, 2009
In this TED Talk, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf - an advocate of improving relations between Muslim-Americans and their neighbors as well as between the wider Muslim world and the West - discussed the role and importance of compassion in Islam. Using teachings from the Qur'an and hadith, the writings of the Persian Sufi poet Rumi, and the examples of Muhammad and Jesus, he expounded upon the centrality of compassion to the Islamic tradition and emphasized the importance of understanding this aspect of a faith that is often mischaracterized as uncompassionate. TED sponsored the event and has made it available on their website, including translations into multiple languages, as part of its advocacy of the Charter for Compassion project.
