The Intercultural and Interreligious Aspects of 9/11: Intercultural and Interfaith Relations After 9/11

October 7, 2011

This lesson plan investigates both the positive and negative effects that the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 had on intercultural and interreligious relations across the world and within the U.S. in particular. Enhanced by the incorporation of aspects of the documentary film Rebirth, the lesson plan discusses three overarching questions: What divisions did the 9/11 attacks expose within the international community? What divisions did the attacks expose in American society? How did people prevent violence and promote cooperation in the aftermath of the attacks? The lesson plan contains a core text, glossary, timeline, online resources, and discussion questions. An accompanying teacher’s guide is also included for use by instructors.
