African Council of Religious Leaders
The African Council of Religious Leaders (ACRL), an affiliate of Religions for Peace, brings together religious leaders to identify “deeply held and widely shared” moral concerns and then to translate these concerns into cooperative action for the betterment of the continent. The council is open to all traditions—most members are Christian or Muslim—and serves as a complementary partner to other pan-African organizations like the African Union. The council primarily seeks to address economic development, HIV/AIDS, and conflict transformation, though it also focuses on good governance and human rights. ACRL supports regional initiatives by interreligious partners.
