Alliance of Religions and Conservation

Founded by HRH Prince Philip of the United Kingdom in 1995, the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) is a secular organization that facilitates the creation of environmental protection initiatives within religious traditions. The purpose is to leverage the power of religious organizations to advance environmental conservation and combat climate change. ARC’s strategy relies heavily on building relationships between religious leaders and secular conservation groups. ARC has worked with 11 different religions and has ongoing partnerships with the United Nations Development Fund and the World Bank. A major program is the ARC-UN Long-Term Commitments for a Living Planet, in which almost all the religious communities working with ARC created long-term plans to combat climate change.
