Association of Franciscan Boystowns and Girlstowns
The Association of Franciscan Boystowns and Girlstowns (APUFRAM) uses education to ameliorate poverty by helping children become self-sufficient adults. APUFRAM operates a variety of educational institutions and training programs across Honduras and the Dominican Republic, serving children from kindergarten through university; in many cases dormitory housing is a key component of the organization's approach. APUFRAM also runs a home for domestic abuse victims and their children. Program support comes from donations, a child sponsorship program, and the sale of agricultural products raised in part by program participants. Students and staff work to generate 60% of the revenue needed for sustenance through projects like a banana farm, raising chickens, and selling art work.
