Cord (originally Christian Outreach Relief and Development) is a Christian organization that specializes in working with displaced people in conflict zones, especially in terms of providing education, care for victims of trauma, and protection for women and children. In addition to its ongoing work with livelihood training and education, Cord's 2012-2016 strategy seeks "peace through partnership" and works to integrate HIV/AIDS, environment, and gender equality programming across the range of its existing initiatives. In partnership with Tearfund UK, Cord has also launched an innovative "toilet twinning" project to increase access to clean water and sanitation facilities among impoverished families in Burundi. Founded in 1967, the organization has actively responded to humanitarian crises since the Vietnam War. Cord is based in Great Britain and works in countries throughout the world; it has formed partnerships with the EU, the UN, and the British government.
