Fiqh Council of North America

Leader: Muzammil Siddiqi

Formed in 1986 to focus its work on Islamic legal issues of concern to the community, the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) is a board of well-known Islamic scholars that advise Muslims on the application of sharia law in the North American context. The council issued a fatwa in July 2005 reaffirming Islam’s condemnation of terrorism and violence against civilians and considering it the duty of all Muslims to help law enforcement and other parties to help protect the lives of all civilians. The council has also issued fatwas to raise awareness about racism and minorities, as well as practical solutions to help Muslims navigate controversial issues such as Islamic financing, stem cell research, Islamic calendar determinations, and other dilemmas. FCNA is affiliated with the Islamic Society of North America.
