Gembu Center for HIV/AIDS Advocacy

The Gembu Centre for HIV/AIDS Advocacy Nigeria (known as GECHAAN) has established a faith-based approach toward prevention and control mechanisms against the transmission of the disease. Staff travel to villages throughout Nigeria with an educational curriculum that centers on abstinence before marriage, marital fidelity, HIV testing, and other health precautions. GECHAAN has reached at least 150,000 people in 120 different villages throughout Nigeria. Aside from education about prevention strategies, the center also provides training for proper in-home care and orphan care and on preventing mother-to-child transmission.
