High Council for Islamic Affairs

The High Council for Islamic Affairs is an independent organization responsible for overseeing the religious activities of all Muslims in Chad. This oversight includes Arabic language and Qur'anic instruction, coordination of Hajj activities, representation of Chad at international religious events, and monitoring of mosque sermons and proselytization by Muslim groups. The Council appoints Chad's Grand Imam, who then oversees the organizations activities. Current Grand Imam Sheikh Hissein Hassan Abakar is a member of the Tijaniyah Sufi order.
