Organization of African Instituted Churches

The Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) unites indigenous African churches as they spread the Gospel and transform communities to reflect a spirit of ubuntu (communality, or generosity in relationships). Programming includes theological training and support, holistic grassroots development, and HIV/AIDS work; specific 2009-2013 project goals emphasize theological education, food security and economic opportunities, women's and youth empowerment, HIV/AIDS work, and OAIC's internal accountability and financial sustainability. USAID has funded HIV/AIDS-related capacity-building initiatives among OAIC micro-churches (often found in rural areas or low-income areas of urban centers), and regional and continental HIV/AIDS conferences have provided a forum for sharing best practices and discussing barriers to an effective response. OAIC is a member of the All African Conference of Churches, World Council of Churches, the Global Christian Forum, and the World Conference of Religions for Peace.
