Women’s Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality

The Women’s Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality (WISE) is a worldwide organization coordinating social networks and grassroots cooperation amongst Muslim women. Muslim women have a history of leadership as professionals, caregivers, teachers, scholars, and activists; WISE aims to reinvigorate this legacy. WISE seeks to alleviate the struggle of women in Muslim countries and communities through the power of Islam, even when that struggle is the result of cultural, social, economic, or political norms. WISE is an all-inclusive movement that works to advance its objectives through communications, action, collaboration, and interpretation of Islamic texts. Issues of focus include access to healthcare and education, domestic violence, parental rights, female genital cutting, dress code, early marriage, polygamy, sex trafficking, stoning, digital technology, and fostering artistic expression, among others. WISE is a project of the American Society for Muslim Advancement, a New York-based non-profit.
